Parasakthi 2026

Summary:

Parasakthi (2026) is a Tamil period political drama directed by Sudha Kongara, inspired by the true events of the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitations in Tamil Nadu. In the 1960s, the central government’s push to make Hindi the country’s sole official language sends shockwaves through the Tamil land, where students and ordinary people see it as a threat to their language, culture and dignity.

At the heart of the story is Chezhiyan, played by Sivakarthikeyan — once a fiery student leader, now working as a railway employee who has tried to leave the struggle behind. His younger brother Chinnadurai, played by Atharvaa, still burns with the anger of youth, while Rathnamala, played by Sreeleela, is the woman Chezhiyan loves. Standing across from them is Thirunaadan, played by Ravi Mohan, a police officer determined to crush the movement on behalf of the establishment.

As protests swell and the streets fill with young voices demanding the right to their mother tongue, Chezhiyan is pulled between the quiet life he chose and the cause that once defined him. Families are divided, friendships are tested and sacrifices mount, as the film moves between personal loyalties and a people’s uprising that would go on to change the politics of the state forever.

Parasakthi recreates its era with care — in its streets, costumes and charged public meetings — and draws strong performances from its ensemble. More than a history lesson, it is an emotional reminder that a language is not merely a means of communication but a community’s memory and pride, and that ordinary students once stood up, at great personal cost, to defend both. It remains a stirring tribute to a defining chapter of Tamil identity.
