Sardar 2 (2026) is a Tamil spy action thriller directed by P. S. Mithran, the sequel to the acclaimed 2022 film Sardar. Karthi returns as Vijay Prakash, a sharp inspector and former operative who is also the son of the legendary spy Sardar. When a new threat emerges from the shadows, Vijay is handed the most dangerous mission of his career.

The enemy is Black Dagger, a mysterious and ruthless antagonist played by S. J. Suryah, who is hunting Doku — a biochemical weapon so deadly it can wipe out lakhs of people within seconds. Long ago, the weapon was hidden away by three operatives, and each of them holds one key to it. If Black Dagger collects all three, nothing can stop him. The hunt turns into a globe-spanning chase in which no one — not even Vijay’s own department — can be fully trusted.

Vijay’s race to protect the keys leads him deep into his father’s hidden past. Years earlier, Sardar himself had crossed paths with Doku, and a mission gone wrong left a village devastated and the great spy buried under guilt. Now the ageing legend must return to the field beside his son. Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath join the mission as the father-son duo confronts old sins and new enemies alike.

Bigger in scale than the first film, Sardar 2 mixes globe-trotting espionage, elaborate action set pieces and an emotional father-son core, while carrying director Mithran’s trademark concern for a social issue beneath the thrills. For fans of the original, it answers the questions left behind by Sardar’s legend — and shows that in this family, once a spy, always a spy. It is a full-scale Tamil spy spectacle.
