On the island of Motunui, a young wayfinder hears the call of the ocean once again. Moana, chosen by the sea itself, must sail beyond the reef to restore the heart of Te Fiti and save her people’s future. Catherine Laga’aia steps into the beloved role with warmth and determination, bringing fresh life to a heroine defined by courage, curiosity and love for her home.

To succeed, Moana needs the help of Maui, the larger-than-life demigod who stole the heart in the first place. Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, complete with magical fishhook, shifting tattoos and an ego as big as the ocean. Their uneasy partnership turns into genuine friendship as they face monstrous creatures, treacherous waters and the mischievous Kakamora across a vast, sparkling voyage. Along the way, Moana learns the ancient art of wayfinding, reading stars, currents and winds as her ancestors did long ago.

This live-action reimagining honours the spirit and music of the animated classic while grounding its world in real Pacific landscapes and cultural detail. Rena Owen, John Tui and Frankie Adams join the voyage as Moana’s family and community, reminding her what she is fighting for. Towering waves, glowing seas and heartfelt songs make every stage of the journey feel magical and alive. The ocean itself remains her playful ally, guiding, teasing and protecting her whenever the voyage grows most perilous.

Moana is a joyful musical adventure for a new generation, celebrating identity, ancestors and the courage to go further than anyone before you. It asks who you are meant to be, and answers with heart, humour and the horizon itself. Some journeys change the world, but the greatest ones also bring you home to yourself.
