Backrooms 2026

Summary:

A therapist searching for a missing patient steps through a doorway that should not exist, and finds herself in a place beyond reason. The Backrooms are an endless maze of yellow walls, humming lights and empty office spaces that stretch in every direction without logic. Time behaves strangely there, sounds echo from nowhere, and something unseen seems to move just out of sight.

Drawing on Kane Parsons’ viral found-footage phenomenon, the film expands that eerie internet myth into a full psychological nightmare. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve lead the cast as ordinary people confronting an impossible dimension that feeds on memory and fear. Hallways repeat, exits vanish, and familiar rooms become subtly wrong, making the search for the patient a descent into obsession and dread. Small details, a misplaced chair or a stain on the carpet, become the only fragile clues she can trust.

Rather than relying only on jump scares, the story builds terror through atmosphere, silence and the horror of being lost where no map can help. The deeper the therapist ventures, the more the Backrooms seem to learn about her, turning personal grief and guilt into part of the labyrinth itself. Every level promises answers, yet each one asks a more disturbing question. Fellow wanderers offer warnings that sound like riddles, and trust becomes as scarce as daylight in that endless, humming world.

Backrooms is a haunting science-fiction horror experience about curiosity, loss and spaces that should never be entered. Its liminal world feels both empty and alive, familiar and alien at once. Once you hear the hum of those fluorescent lights, you may start to wonder what waits behind the ordinary walls of your own world.
