Cosmic Princess Kaguya! reimagines Japan’s oldest folktale for the streaming age, following a radiant princess who falls from the Moon to modern Tokyo. Discovered as a baby inside a glowing bamboo stalk in the classic tale, Kaguya here grows up restless and curious, dreaming of a life far beyond the quiet rules of the lunar court that watches over her.

Everything changes when Kaguya slips into a dazzling virtual world and reinvents herself as a streamer idol, singing and performing for thousands of adoring fans. There she crosses paths with a kind-hearted Tokyo schoolgirl whose own ordinary life feels small and overlooked. Their unlikely friendship becomes the heart of the story, as the two girls inspire each other to be braver, louder and more honest about who they really want to become. Between school corridors, late-night rehearsals and secret rooftop conversations, their bond gives the film a tender, very modern coming-of-age warmth beneath all the sparkle.

As Kaguya’s online fame grows, so does the pull of her celestial home, and messengers from the Moon begin closing in with an old claim on her future. Blending shimmering hand-crafted animation with catchy original songs and vibrant concert sequences, the film moves between bamboo groves, neon city streets and fantastical digital stages, asking what home truly means when your heart belongs in two worlds at once.

Warm, funny and quietly bittersweet, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! is a musical fantasy about friendship, freedom and finding your own voice. Yuko Natsuyoshi, Anna Nagase, Saori Hayami and Rie Kugimiya bring warmth and energy to a heroine who refuses to be a prize in someone else’s story, making this Netflix anime a joyful pick for families and anime lovers alike.
