Hoppers is a Pixar adventure comedy built on a wonderfully wild idea: scientists have found a way to hop a human mind into a lifelike robotic animal body. The technology is meant to help researchers understand wildlife from the inside, communicating with creatures in their own world for the very first time, and it works far better than anyone expected.
Teenager Mabel, a passionate animal lover, seizes her chance and hops into a robotic beaver, scampering into a busy pond community full of chattering, squabbling and surprisingly organised animals. What begins as a dream adventure quickly becomes a mission when Mabel discovers that a smooth-talking mayor plans to bulldoze the animals’ habitat to build a new highway straight through their home. Living life at beaver height reveals a whole hidden society of dam builders, food gatherers and neighbourhood gossips, and Mabel quickly realises the animals have plans, traditions and families every bit as real and important as any human town nearby.
Determined to protect her new friends, Mabel rallies the pond’s residents, from an easygoing bear to a very serious insect queen, in a chaotic campaign to save the valley. Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Meryl Streep and Dave Franco lead a superb voice cast, balancing slapstick chases and fish-out-of-water gags with real emotion about nature, empathy and listening to voices that are usually ignored.
With gorgeous woodland animation and Pixar’s trademark blend of laughter and heart, Hoppers turns a body-swap premise into a joyful call to protect the wild places around us. Mabel’s double life cannot stay secret forever, and the choices she makes inside her beaver body will decide whether two very different worlds can learn to share one home.
