On the windswept Yorkshire moors, a foundling boy named Heathcliff is taken into the Earnshaw household, where he forms an intense bond with the family’s spirited daughter, Catherine. Growing up together at Wuthering Heights, they find in each other a freedom and understanding that the rigid world of class, family duty and respectability refuses to allow them. The moors around them feel less like scenery and more like a living part of their bond.
As they reach adulthood, ambition, pride and social pressure begin to pull Catherine towards a safer and wealthier life, even though her heart remains bound to Heathcliff in a way she can neither explain nor escape. His humiliation and sense of betrayal harden into a consuming need to rise in the world and settle every score. Every choice she makes to protect her future quietly wounds the one person who truly knows her.
Heathcliff’s return sets off a chain of longing, jealousy and revenge that reaches beyond the two lovers and into the next generation of both families. Houses that once promised shelter become places of obsession and grief, while the wild landscape mirrors the emotional storms that none of the characters can fully control or outrun. Servants, siblings and children all inherit the consequences of decisions they never made for themselves at all.
Emerald Fennell brings a bold, sensual and provocative eye to Emily Brontë’s beloved Gothic classic. With Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as the doomed central pair, this new adaptation leans into desire, cruelty and atmosphere, presenting a famous love story as something beautiful, dangerous and impossible to leave behind. It will divide purists, certainly, but its passion and visual daring are impossible to dismiss or forget easily.
