In her village, everyone lowers their voice when Pavunamma passes by, for the elderly moneylender known as Thaai Kizhavi fears no one, forgives no loan and forgets no insult. Sharp-tongued and iron-willed, she has run her moneylending business for decades, keeping account books, defaulters and even her own grown children firmly under her thumb. Debtors arrive with excuses and leave with smaller instalments and bigger respect, for beneath her scolding sits a memory for every family’s genuine hardship, and she quietly forgives those who truly cannot pay, though she would rather be feared than thanked.

When she suddenly falls seriously ill, the household turns upside down. Her sons and daughters-in-law rush home, not only out of concern but also out of curiosity about her hidden wealth and the property papers everyone believes she guards. Old rivalries between siblings flare up, turning the sickroom corridor into a comedy of whispered alliances and scheming relatives.

Yet the old woman, even from her bed, misses nothing. Between moments of genuine vulnerability, she tests each child’s love, exposes their greed with wicked humour and recalls the hard years that made her so tough. A few long-buried family truths surface, forcing everyone to see the feared moneylender as a mother who sacrificed more than they knew.

Thaai Kizhavi is a lively rural comedy-drama anchored by Radikaa Sarathkumar’s commanding performance as the unforgettable grandmother. Singampuli, Aruldoss and Munishkanth add generous laughter around her. Mixing village humour with tender emotion, the film celebrates strong elderly women and reminds families that affection should never wait for an inheritance to be discussed. Its fields, courtyards and festivals feel lived-in and real, giving the comedy a rooted, earthy flavour throughout.
