My Lord 2026

Summary:

Muthusamy is an ordinary man who discovers one morning that, according to government records, he no longer exists, because a clerical fraud has declared him dead on paper. His ration card is cancelled, his bank account is frozen and his own village begins treating him like a ghost, all while he stands alive in front of them.

Behind the error lies a bigger design. At every government office he visits, clerks shrug, computers blame servers and officers demand documents that a dead man cannot possibly produce, turning his daily survival into an absurd obstacle course that is funny on the surface and frightening underneath, because everything he owns depends on proving one simple, obvious truth. A powerful minister’s machinery has been erasing poor citizens on paper to grab their land and benefits, and Muthusamy’s case is only one file among thousands. With the help of a determined young advocate, he drags the system to court, turning his personal struggle into an embarrassing public spectacle for those in power.

The courtroom becomes a stage for sharp political satire, where officials pass blame, files vanish mysteriously and the minister’s camp tries everything from threats to sympathy to silence the man who refuses to stay dead. Muthusamy’s wife and family, first frightened by the fight, slowly become its strongest backbone as neighbours join his cause.

My Lord, directed by Raju Murugan, mixes biting satire with grounded emotion in the story of a common man versus a careless state. M. Sasikumar delivers a restrained, dignified performance, supported by a strong ensemble. The film asks a simple, unsettling question with humour and anger: what is a citizen worth when the paperwork says otherwise? Few recent satires make their point this entertainingly, or this personally.
