Prahaar 2026

Summary:

Prahaar (2026) is a Hindi courtroom drama that revisits one of the most closely watched trials in India’s history — the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Rajkummar Rao steps into the role of celebrated public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, the man tasked with proving the case in a court of law.

The film begins in the shadow of the attacks, when a grieving nation is demanding swift punishment and many are asking why a terrorist caught on camera deserves a trial at all. Appointed as special public prosecutor, Nikam insists that justice must follow the law, however long it takes, and sets about building an airtight case from mountains of evidence, witness accounts and forensic proof. The case also becomes a test of the justice system itself, watched closely by the media and the entire country.

Inside the courtroom, Nikam faces Abbas Kazmi, the defence lawyer willing to argue Kasab’s side, and the two men spar over every testimony and technicality. Away from the court, the film quietly follows the cost of the case on Nikam’s personal life — his wife Jyoti, played by Wamiqa Gabbi, watches the trial consume his days and years, even as public pressure mounts around the family. Jaideep Ahlawat appears in a significant supporting turn.

Directed by Avinash Arun, Prahaar is less about the night of the attacks and more about what followed — the patience, discipline and faith in due process that a landmark verdict demands. Anchored by a restrained and powerful performance from Rajkummar Rao, it is a gripping reminder that in a democracy, even the most hated accused is answered with evidence, not anger.
