Gandhari (2026) is a Hindi action thriller that premiered on Netflix, led by Taapsee Pannu in one of her most physically demanding roles. Drawing its title from the Mahabharata’s Gandhari, the film reimagines the symbolism of blindness as a story of a mother’s grief, grit and revenge.
Bani, played by Taapsee Pannu, is travelling with her husband Gokul and their little daughter Mishty when the child is snatched away at a crowded railway station in Joypurra, a strange fictional border town. In the chaos of chasing the kidnapper, a violent attack leaves Bani temporarily unable to see, and the local police investigation moves far too slowly for a mother who is running out of time. The town itself feels like a character — colourful on the surface, with street performers and folk legends woven into daily life, yet hiding something rotten underneath.
As Bani digs deeper, she uncovers the shadow of Blackhole, a child-trafficking network that has been quietly operating out of Joypurra and spiriting young girls away. Refusing to sit and wait, she begins training her remaining senses — hearing, smell and touch — turning her blindness into an unlikely weapon as she follows the trail through a town full of secrets, street performers and old legends. Along the way, she finds guidance from local women who know Joypurra’s hidden corners better than anyone else. Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam and Swastika Mukherjee appear in key roles.
Directed by Devashish Makhija and written by Kanika Dhillon, Gandhari blends raw action with the emotional force of a parent who will not give up. It is a dark, atmospheric thriller about how far a mother can go when every door is closed to her — and how loss itself can become a source of strength.
