The Pout-Pout Fish brings the beloved picture book to the big screen, following Mr Fish, a gloomy ocean dweller convinced that spreading dreary feelings is simply his destiny. With his famous downturned mouth and a cloud of pessimism that follows him everywhere, he drifts through his reef community sighing at every plan, party and possibility that comes his way.

When trouble threatens the sea creatures’ home, Mr Fish is reluctantly pulled into an adventure alongside a wise and wonderfully upbeat sea dragon who sees the world very differently. Together they set out across sparkling reefs, shadowy trenches and swaying kelp forests in search of the legendary kelp goddess, a mythical figure said to hold the power to save their home before it is too late. The journey is told in gentle rhyming rhythms that echo the picture book, with songs, jokes and small acts of kindness breaking through Mr Fish’s gloom a little more with every creature they help along the way.

Along the way the mismatched pair meet a parade of colourful sea neighbours, dodge dangers and learn that courage often looks a lot like simply showing up for your friends. Nick Offerman’s dry, gruff warmth is perfect for Mr Fish, while Nina Oyama, Miranda Otto, Jordin Sparks and Amy Sedaris fill the ocean with comedy, music and heart in every scene.

Gentle, funny and full of underwater colour, The Pout-Pout Fish turns a simple story about a frown into a celebration of friendship and emotional honesty. Young viewers will love its catchy songs, gentle silliness and bright characters, while parents will appreciate its kind, reassuring message: feelings are not forever, and even the gloomiest fish can discover a reason to smile.
